I much regret that the reply to your despatches should have been delayed, but I have been in hopes of the Committee continuing its investigations. The present strike conditions have shown that my views as regards the food supply are correct.

To put the matter in a nut-shell I consider that the supplies at any moment in the Colony or readily obtainable are sufficient to provide for the needs of the population for any period that it could possibly hold out against an attack.
